It took the 48er Stars half a period to realize they would have to work much harder than they thought to defeat a weakened EAC Cap team that missed their top scorer and best defenseman and still came out strong to open up a 2 – 0 lead after just 5 minutes into the game. After a time out to lay down the law the 48er Stars managed to close the gap late in the first on a nice play by Cedric Ihruesogie and finished off by Houben to go into the break just down one.

In the battle for the Eastern U-15 Division title the 48er Stars showed what they were made of and dominated the second period, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4 – 2 lead into the third period. Fabian Tomanek move up front to centre Hummel and Baltram and scored on a nice individual effort with an assist going to Felix Wagner. Then Schröder off a scramble in front put the Stars in the lead with passes going to Houben and Ihruesogie and the their fourth goal of the contest was scored by Vicky Hummel with Niki Kraus and Tomanek getting helpers.

The Caps made it close half way through the third closing to within one but two quick goals by Kreuzer with assists to Houben and Ihruesogie both picking up their third points of the night and Kraus on a nice play from Hrdina and Richter sealed the deal.

The 48er Stars finished first in their division with only three minus points and with their arch rivals the EAC Capitals will take on the best two U-15 Squads from both the Central and Western Divisons to decide the Austrian Championship. “We can go into the final round with confidence and should be able to play a key role in the Championship as long as we remember to come prepared and ready to outwork the opposition for a full sixty” reminded head coach Vorlicek after the game.
