The 48er/Stars started the championship round against their rivals the EAC Capitals in Vienna Sunday afternoon and promptly dispatched a shocked Cap group 10 – 5. The 48er/Stars without the dependable Raphael Ungar (Family Illness) and Nicole Arnberger (National Team), third goalie Marc Gerdelits got the call and did commendable job.

Just 15 seconds into the game Marco Richter found the net after a Albert  Krammer feed and 5 minutes later Fritz Schroeder put the Stars up by 2 with a nice pass from behind the net from Nikolaus Houben. It looked as though the game was in hand but Dominik Grafenthin took matters into his own hands scored twice in the first period to even the score.

Early in the second period after some defensive confusion in front of the net the Caps jumped on a loose puck and took a short lived 3 – 2 lead. The 48er/Stars did not wait long to answer and put any doubt at rest with 5 unanswered goals to open up a 7 – 3 lead going into the third. Leading the way for the 48er/Stars was Philipp Kreuzer who would not be denied on this day and overpowered his opponents with his speed and shot. Kreuzer 2, Hummel 2 and Schroeder his second of the night were the scorers with helpers going to Richter 2, Antonitsch, Tomanek, Baltram, Matzka and Kreuzer.

After a word in the dressing room about discipline and staying cool for the final frame, the 48er/Stars stayed out of the box and won the third 3 - 2. Schroeder and Kreuzer each with their third goals and Antonitsch were the marksmen, with assists to Richter with 2 for 5 points on the night and Hummel, Kraus and Laurov to round out the scoring. Coach Vorlicek was very pleased with the effort and commended his team on their poise and hard work, which were the corner stones of the victory. “It is a great way to start the round and go into the Christmas break. I am very happy with the development all the players thus far into the season. Coach Jason O’Leary has done a super job with the U-15 L.A. Star players and the 48er/Tigers have fit in well to form a very strong U-15 group” voiced the visibly pleased coach after the game.

The next U-15 matchup is against VSV (Villacher Sportverein) takes place on January 9, 2010 in Villach.
