Beantown Classic
The Prep Stars annual North American trip has shown some ups and downs, as the Stars compete in the Fall Beantown Classic in Exeter, New Hampshire. With some of the top U-19 teams in the Eastern US, as well as several Canadian teams, the Stars are getting the opportunity to compete in front of hundreds of NHL, College, and Major Junior scouts.
Prior to the tournament, the Stars played three exhibition games. The competition were the South Shore Kings U-18 team, the Boston Advantage U-18 team, and the Rhode Island Capitals.
The Stars opened on Sunday with an exhibition game against the South Shore Kings U-18’s in Foxboro, MA. The Stars opened the scoring as Jon Flamand picked up a pass from Nikola Lazarevic, and buried a spin-a-round forehand to get the boys on the board. Not long after, the Kings evened the score 5-on-5 to draw the game at one apiece. Niki Kraus then buried an in-tight feed from Fabio Kläy to give the Stars the lead again, with Fritz Schroder grabbing the other assist. The Kings, however, were unfazed and again came from behind to draw even again with a short-handed goal. In the third, Marco Richter gave the Stars another lead, but the Stars were unable to maintain the lead, as they gave up their second short-handed goal of the game. Final score was 3-3, with Johann Bauer picking up the tie, after being relieved by Sandro Aeschlimann in the third.

In game two of the exhibition series, the Stars travelled to Hingham for a rematch with the Boston Advantage U-18’s. The Advantage were boasting a line-up with two committed (NCAA) players, and are a solid U-18 team in the Eastern US. The teams played two 22 minute halves, and were even throughout much of the game. Sandro Aeschlimann got the start in goal, and played very well throughout the game. Despite playing even with the Advantage for the most part, the Stars conceded two first-half goals and were unable to muster any goals against the stingy Advantage defense. The final score was Advantage 2, Stars 0.

The third game saw the Stars travel to Rhode Island for a game with the Rhode Island Capitals. The Stars were hungry and showed some offensive prowess, opening up a three goal lead before the end of the first. Zak Hicks scored his first of the trip with assists going to Sascha Karachun and Niki Kraus. Ricco Ratajcyzk then got on the board with Karachun and Rilk picking up assists. Jon Flamand notched the third of the frame for the Stars, with Kläy and Schroder picking up assists. The Stars held a 3-0 lead after one. The second period began much the same way, with Stefan Hrdina scoring off of a screened point shot to extend the lead, and Sebastian Rilk tallied his first on the trip with Ratajcyzk and Kraus picking up assists, giving the Prep Stars a 5-0 lead at the end of the second. The third period saw no scoring for the Stars, while the Capitals picked up a late goal spoiling Johann Bauer’s shutout.
