Game One: LA Stars VS Rhode Island Selects   Stars 1, Select 0

It was a very excited LA Stars Varsity team that took to the ice on October, 24 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island to play agaisnt the host RI Selects. This was their first of three exhibition games before participating in the Beantown Classic showcase tournament.

The boys were a little nervous, for many of the players it was their first experience playing hockey in North America. In the early going the Selects took the game to the visiting Stars but goaltender Raphael Ungar held his ground and kept the Selects off the score sheet. The first period saw Ungar make several key saves as the Starts struggled to find their legs. The game was scoreless after the first period.

Early in the second period the Stars began to keep pace with the RI Selects and generated some scoring chances of their own. This was a goalies night as the teams traded chances but neither team could finish with a goal. The score after two periods remained 0-0.

The third period saw the Selects press hard for the first goal of the game but the Stars held their ground, lead by Ungar's strong play in the net. As the clock wound down it appeared like this first contest would end in a scoreless tie. Play was down to less that a minute and the Selects were throwing everything they had at the Stars trying to secure the victory.

Then came the break, the Selects were pressing hard when the puck was chipped out of the zone creating a two on one break for the Stars! Sam Antonitsch took the puck on the right side as Luke Znidarsic headed for the Selects' net. Fearing a goal mouth pass the Selects' defenseman backed in. Antonitsch took advantage and walked in for a shot catching the goalie deep in his net and scored top corner. The Stars took the only lead of the game with 11 seconds on the clock. The puck came back to center ice for the face-off and the Stars keep the Selects at bay while the game came to an end. Great start to the big road trip!!

Game Two: LA Stars VS South Shore Kings  Stars 3, Kings 10

With game one under their belts and a win at that the Stars made the trip to Foxborough for game two of their exhibition series. One this night the Stars would find nothing but struggles. The host Kings scored early and often on their way to a 10 -3 ripping of the Stars. Give full credit to the Kings as they played a hard working and spirited game. Replying for the Stars were Sam Antonitsch, Aljaz Chvatal and Florian Wallner. Assists went to Philipp Poshmann, Daniel Gysi and Gabbor Belenysei.

Game Three: LA Stars VS Boston Advantage  Stars 0, Advantage 12

In the last of the three exhibition game the Stars were up against a very good team in the Boston Advantage. On this day the Stars experienced first hand how the game is player at a high skill level by a very hard working team. The result did not flatter the Stars but hopefully they took away some insight as to how to execute the skills needed to play the game of hockey at an elite level. When all was said and done the Stars were at the wrong end of a 12-0 score.

The Beantown Classic

Game One: LA Stars VS Alliance Bulldogs Stars 1, Bulldogs 4

On Thursday, October 27th the LA Stars were matched up against the Alliance Bulldogs from Texas in game one of the Beantown Classic. Five minutes into the contest the Bulldogs took the lead getting the puck past Rhaphael Ungar of the Stars. The Stars responded at 10:03 of the first when defenseman Daniel Gysi scored on a pass from Sam Antonitsch. The period ended with the scored 1-1.

The Bulldogs regained the lead five minutes into the second period and held a 2-1 lead going into the third. The Stars were unable to mount a comeback as the Bulldogs scored twice in the third to post a 4-1 victory over the LA Varsity Stars.

Game Two: LA Stars VS Cape Breton Tradesmen   Stars 1, Tradesmen 7

In the second game of the day the Stars would face a team from Canada, the Cape Breton Tradesmen. The Tradesmen opened the scoring at 3:35 of the first period and found the net again at 9:31 of that frame. The Stars answered back in the second when Sam Antonitsch scored on a set-up from Aljaz Chvatal. Again the Stars were heading into the third trailing by a single goal. Once again the Stars were unable to pull themselves back into the game and ran out of gas. You might look to the fifth game in four day as the a contributing factor. The Tradesmen put five more into the Stars net to win convincingly handing the Stars a 7-1 loss.

Game Three: LA Stars VS New Jersey Devils Stars 0, Devils 3

In the third game of the tournament the Stars would face the New Jersey Devils on Friday, October 28. The devils opened things up with a goal four minutes into the contest. The Stars could generate little in the way of offense and saw the first period end down 1-0. In the second the Devils got their second of the game while the Stars were again held off the score sheet. Trailing 2-0 heading into the third the Stars put up a good effort but were unable to put anything past the Devils goalie. The devils rounded out the scoring to finish the game with a 3-0 victory over the Stars.

Game Four: LA Stars VS Jr. Valley Hawks  Stars 3, Hawks 2

In a rather snowy night in the Boston area the Stars would do battle with the Jr. Valley Hawks. For some added punch Johannes Leitner was put up on the wing. The move paid of as Leitner dug out a puck from behind the net and made a fed out to Gonzalo Ruiz. Ruiz put the puck past the Hawks goalie to give the Stars their first lead of the tournament. The two teams went back and forth for two period s with the Stars holding on to a 1-0 lead. In the third the Stars opened up their lead on goals from Philipp Poshmann and Florian Wallner with the assists going to Todd Poynter and Gabbor Belenyesi. The Hawks were not done however and pushed back with two goals of their own. However the Stars were not to be denied and held on to win their last game of the tournament and the Boston experience.
