In a rematch between the Vienna Junior Caps and the L.A. Stars, it was apparent that the hometown Caps were more than amped up for the Friday night contest at the Albert-Schultz Halle in the Austrian capital.

The Stars, fresh off of their “worst outing of the season” as Coach Jason O’Leary put it (an 8-0 loss to KAC), showed no more gusto than they had two nights earlier.  With Bryce Fink getting the start against their rival team, the Stars seemed to be overwhelmed, and depended heavily on the Gig Harbor-native early and often.

“We certainly didn’t seem prepared today, that is for sure. We were out-hustled, out-hit, and out-chanced. Even our powerplay failed to gain any momentum for us, and that was really tough.”

The Caps built up period leads of 3-0 and 5-0 before finishing off the Stars 8-0. O’Leary pulled Fink in favour of Johann Bauer after the 6th Caps goal, but it was nothing short of merciful as opposed to the play of Fink. “Our goaltending has been fine all year; I have only pulled a starter twice in favour of another goalie, and it only has once ever resulted in a victory. That means our goaltenders have been playing well enough to win. Tonight, I just couldn’t leave him in there... he was getting shell-shocked.”

The next stop for the Stars will be in Villach, where the Eagles will be looking to avenge their 14-6 loss at the hands of the Stars back in November.
