Feldkirch Faces U17 Mix
With the Prep Team in Villach for the weekend. The two U17 teams combined to form a team for some U20 action. With Eliah Knecht in net and being the only true U20 Player in the line up, 21 others laced up for the most part their first U20 competition. The energy in the dressing room was unbelievable, and the first period was great hockey. Nikita Zantmans and Eduard Kuznetsov both rattled pucks of the posts and Aljaz Chvatal had a great chance all alone in front as the Stars outplayed and outchanced Feldkirch in the first. At the other end Eliah was solid stopping all shots and giving up zero rebounds.
The second period started and this time it would be Feldkirch applying most of the pressure. After a defensive turnover Dominik Oberscheider put one over the shoulder of Knecht for a 1-0 lead. The pressure kept coming but Knecht was again there to keep the puck out of the net. 10 minutes later Ben Sera would lead a 3 on 1 rush driving wide with the puck and hitting Mark Flamand trailing the play. Flamand made no mistake going top blocker for his first U20 goal of his career. The bench went crazy. With that goal we also lost our discipline. A great tight played game to this point was now a wide open affair, something we definitely did not want. The result in the next two minutes would be 2 goals against on mistakes we wouldn't normally make. 3-1 after two periods.
The third we battled hard and had two 5 on 3 power plays which we couldn't capitalize on and that would be the deciding factor in the game. Feldkirch would add a late goal to make the final 4-1, however it was a great game for the U17 combination of Players. They did not let down, they were physical and did a lot of great things. They also learned that at this level, when you make a mistake you pay for it.
