Varsity Streak Ends!
As it is with all good things; they must come to an end. This was the fate for the L.A. Stars Varsity’s undefeated streak. Heading into Graz this Thursday, the Varsity Stars had assembled a modest streak of seven games without a loss.
The Varsity Stars got off to a slow start on Thursday, allowing Graz to score when the game was just over one minute old. Not the start you need on the road! The 99’s already up by a goal were looking to extend their lead as they continued to attack in the early going. Midway through the first the Stars began to get their legs and the momentum started to shift. The ends of the first period had the L.A. Stars generate several chances but were unable to get on the score sheet.
Just under three minutes into the second period the Stars finally broke through with a goal by Sam Antonitcsh on a passing play from Ricco Ratajcyk and Felix Wagner. The tie was short lived however as Graz jumped back into the lead four minutes later on a bad angle shot. They then extended their lead a few minutes later on a bad bounce off a Star's player. Luck was not to be on the Star's side on this day as the puck was determined not to bounce their way.
The third period began with the Starts trailing 3-1 despite finishing period two with numerous opportunities. The chances for a Stars comeback got even slimmer when Graz scored on the power play to take a 4-1 lead. However, the boys pushed hard, throwing everything at the 99’s goalie. In the end it was not to be the Star's night and despite creating scoring chances in all three periods, one goal was not going to be enough on this day. Final Score Graz 4; L.A. Stars 1.
