Jr. Varsity Extend Winning Streak to 3
October 2, 2011 – After losing the season opener 6-0 to the LA Varsity Stars, the boys were looking forward to the rematch of the internal U17 teams. Coming off a win the night before the Jr Varsity Stars were highly motivated for their second game of the weekend.
The Varsity Team came out hardhitting everything in sight but there would be no retaliation penalties this time around. The discipline that has led us to two straight wins was there once again, and on this day when we got our chances we cashed them in. It would be the Russian line once again that would open the scoring on a Power Play. After a flurry of shots Eduard Kusnetsov would finally bang one in to give the boys some needed life. Later in the first on another rebound Thomas Zitz would put one past Raphael Unger to make it a 2:0 game at the end of the first.
The second period was a different story. Although Cedric Irhuesogie would score his first of three on the night, the Varsity Team was coming with determination and started moving the puck a little more and forcing some mistakes which led to some penalties and eventually 2 goals against. Lucky for us the period came to an end and we were able to regroup.
We got back to our game plan and the Varsity boys became frustrated and started taking penalties enabling Cedric to add to our lead on the Power Play. Marvin Alena would score to make it once again a two goal game but this period we managed to stay out of the panic zone and play simple hockey and sat back and waited for our chances, and like I mentioned earlier on this day our chances went in, on a different day who knows what would have happened, that is Hockey…
When the horn sounded to end the game the boys jumped on top of Dieber who once again had a very strong game between the pipes. It was a solid team effort and the winning streak is now at 3 games.
