Showdown in Salzburg
On Saturday the Varsity Stars traveled to Salzburg in what they hoped would be an opportunity to pull even with the Red Bulls after dropping an early season 3-2 to the Bulls at home. The Stars optimism was short lived as the hometown Bulls jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Salzburg posted three goals in the first period while the Stars mustered little in the way of sustained offense.
The Stars did find a small spark at the start of the second period when Alexander Karachun made a terrific pass to Ricco Rataajczyk who buried the puck behind the Salzburg netminder to cut the led to 3-1. The Stars had little time to celebrate as just over a minute later the Bulls restored the three goal lead and went on to end the second period up 7-1.
The final frame saw more of the same as Salzburg continued to have their way with the Stars and rounded out the period with three more goals to send the Stars packing 10-1.
Salzburg 10, LA Stars 1 (3-0,7-1,10-1)
