Jr. Varsity (LA 2), U17 Austrian Championship

Our Junior Varsity team is also comprised of players born 1995 and younger all of which attend the 9th grade (LAIS) and will also compete in the U17 Austrian Championship. This squad is made up of mainly new players to the Academy, which will need a lot of work to help them to understand our systems and expectations. They of course will not have an easy time adjusting to the much higher level of hockey they will be facing but again will have the benefit of being one of the younger teams in the league and gain some much needed experience for future challenges. Our Jr. Varsity will travel to Riga, Latvia this spring and can look forward to some very unique experiences both in hockey as well as culture. All our athletes will be given the opportunity to see the bigger picture and widen their horizons both in hockey and in life.

L.A. Jr. Varsity Lose Another Player and Game

With Captain Emil Sztatecsny still out after a second operation on his foot, Patrick Dieber out with a Concussion, Mark Flamand with a suspension and Sebastian Habernig still with his foot injury, there would be more bad news for the Stars. Not only would they lose the game but Alexander Bartenbach was sent to the Hospital and eventually to the airport where he will fly home to Germany for Surgery tomorrow morning to repair his Collar Bone. Bartenbach will be out 6-8 weeks.

The Stars would pick up Nicky Krauss from the Prep team for the game. Nicky helped us fill out our lineup for the game and did a great job in all situations, but the Black Wings were too much for the Stars on this day. 9 minutes into the game the Stars already had 18 minutes in penalty minutes and be behind 3-0. Linz would add two more before the end to take a 5-1 lead into the locker room after being awarded a goal on a shot that hit the crossbar and never crossed the line. Matt Flamand would be the goal scorer on the PP for the Stars on a great shot in the top right corner. That would be the only goal on the night. There were a lot of positive things but they would be outweighed heavily by the little mistakes. Linz won most of the battles and their hard work created bounces for them as well. It was a frustrating night for all Players in white, and of course also for the coaching staff.

The thought of losing yet another Player and another Leader for that matter is tough, but that’s Hockey. It’s an opportunity for the next Player to step forward and take over an important role. The Learning Process never stops and although sometimes it is very hard to understand why, it’s even harder to stay motivated and work on the how. Now is the time for the hard work, to dig deep every day and make each other better.
