Stars continue to roll on Swiss Soil
The Prep Stars continue to roll at the INS tournament in Wichtrach, Switzerland. While they may have been underdogs to start, the Stars first two games have brought some notice to the Austrian squad, scoring fourteen goals for and giving up just one against.
The Stars played against Swiss 1st division Ambri Piotta in their second game of the International Tournament, and once again, the line of Richter-Houben-Karachun were dangerous every time they touched the ice. joining them in the offense was the line of Klaey-Leisser-Schroder. Unfortunately for the Swiss-Italian squad, so were most of the other Stars on the night.Raphael Ungar got the start in goal, and for the first period it was a close battle. While the Stars were controlling much of the play, they were unable to beat the Swiss goalie. After twenty minutes, both Ambri and the Stars were knotted at nothing apiece.
In the second, the Stars offense came to life. Daniel Leisser buried a rebound off of the point-shot from Fabio Klaey. Albert Krammer picked up the other assist on the play. Not long after, Nikolaus Houben broke in alone on the Ambri net, and beat the netminder with a dazzling array of cutbacks before lifting one over the left pad. Richter and Karachun picked up the assists on the play. it was then the turn of Philipp Poschman buried on a rebound to notch his first goal as a Prep player, roofing the puck from in tight to extend the Stars lead to three. Fritz Schroder then hammered home a pass from Daniel Leisser on the power-play (Krammer) and the lead was now at four. In the Stars direction, the shots were minimal as the forechecking kept Ambri in their own end for the majority of the period.
In the third frame the Stars' goal was to keep the momentum and maintain composure, to which they did with tremendous accuracy. Richter, with his sixth and seventh of the tournament, extended the lead to six, with Houben and Karachun assisting on both. Schroder then put away his second of the game, with Klaey and Krammer assisting, before Klaey buried his first of the tournament with just under a minute remaining on a magnificent feed from Sam Antonitsch, and the Stars scoring was complete. Ungar remained relatively untested, picking up the shutout.
Next up for the Stars is the SC Langnau Tigers, a highly touted team from the Swiss 1st Division. Tune back in for the results and recap.
