Stars Rely on Discipline to Dispatch of Wolves
The L.A. Prep Stars rode powerplay goals from Marco Richter and Fritz Schrӧder, as well as two assists from captain Fabio Kläy en route to a 5-2 win over Tarco Wolfe Saturday night in Klagenfurt. Eliah Knecht got the start in goal for the Stars, and they gave him all of the support he would need, despite a late surge by the home team in an attempt to defeat the Lower Austrian Academy team.
Scoring started mid-way through the first period, as Marco Richter buried on the powerplay on a nifty give-and-go with Nikola Lazarevic to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Just moments later, great transition from Fabio Kläy to defenseman Stefan Hrdina led to a great rush from the big Slovak. Kläy, following up on the play, buried on the rebound to give the Stars a 2-0 lead as they headed into the dressing room after twenty minutes.
At the beginning of the second period, the line of Kläy-Schrӧder-Leisser struck on a 5-on-3 powerplay as Kläy found Schrӧder on the back door and Schrӧder made no mistake, with Krammer picking up an assist on the play. Krammer then hammered home a one-timer on a nice dish from Kläy as the Stars pushed the lead to three with Schrӧder notching the other helper. After 40 minutes, the Stars held a 4-0 lead.
In the third, it started out with the same type of scoring, as Zak Hicks jumped into open ice down in the slot, getting a great feed from Keegan Evangelista. Sebastian Rilk was also in on the play, and the Stars had a 5 goal lead. The Wolves, not to be pushed around easily, did their best to pressure the Stars. It paid off, as they tallied twice to make the game more interesting, but the Stars shut the door, and at game end, the road-worn Stars picked up the win, and the two points.
Net weekend, the Stars will return to Klagenfurt for a rematch with Tarco, before a Sunday matinee with Innsbruck in a neutral site game. Check back for more details.
