Varsity (LA 1), U17 Austrian Championship

The Varsity team is one of two Academy teams participating in the Austrian U17 Championships and is comprised of 1995 and younger born players who are also primarily attending the 10th grade or 6L (LAIS).

LA 1 is the more experienced of the two U17 teams and benefited from being able to play in the U17 league last season. With new players from many countries joining the program at both the U20 and U17 levels we do expect it may take a little time to get adjusted to one another and our systems. Players from both U17 teams are always able to step up and play U20 if the coaching staff feels the player can handle the speed and size of the older league. There are no limits to what a player can achieve!

An Important Win!

The LA Stars Varsity squad enjoyed a November to remember as they went undefeated for the month. With a record of 4-0-1 for the month the Stars were moving up the league standings. On Sunday the Stars had a chance to finish within the top six teams in the league before the Christmas break. This would be significant because at that point the league tiers play with the top six teams scheduled for competition in the second half. A position in the top six for the Varsity would mean better competition in the second half helping to fuel player development.

Sunday’s match saw the Stars travel to Vienna to play WEV a team without a win to this point. It was over confidence that would prove to be the Star's big opponent as the team got off to a slow start. Then at the 10:09 mark Philipp Poshmann got things started for the Stars on a pass from Ben Sera. Four minutes later Ricco Ratajczyk put the Stars up by two on a feed from Alexander Karachun. The period would close with the Stars up 2-0.

More Stars scoring in the second as Gabor Belenyesi, Gonzalo Ruiz and Ratajczk with his second all found the net. Assists went to Marton Ladanyi, Poshmann, Karachun, Sam Antonitsch and Reinis Skorovs with two. WEV answered with a goal of their own to leave the score 5-1 Stars after two periods. The Stars would score three more in the third with goals going to Ratajczyk, the hat trick, while Poshmann and Karachune each netted their second of the night.

A solid 8-1 victory for the Stars and more importantly a guaranteed finish in the top six!!
