Varsity Bring Their A Game
Last Saturday the Varsity Stars set to do battle with the Capitals form Vienna. The Stars jumped out to an early lead on a goal from Philipp Pöshman at 4:50 of the first period, with the assist going to Florian Wallner. The Stars struck twice more before the end of the first on goals from Mathias Kastner and Marvin Alena with assists going to Florian Wallner, Daniel Gysi and Ricco Ratajczyk. The Stars posted their best start to date, controlling the play in the first and were rewarded for their efforts.
In the second period the Caps tried to get back in the game and thanks to some penalties were able to close the margin scoring 2:45 into the middle frame. The Stars got that goal back when Gabbor Belenyesi scored from Marton Ladanyi. Again while on the power play the Caps scored to get within two. Minutes later at the 28:57 mark of the second period, Antonisch was hauled down while on a break and was awarded a penalty shot. Antonisch made no mistake and the Stars never looked back. Antonisch scored again on a feed from Gysi. Alexander Karachun rounded out the scoring on a pass from Pöshman and the Stars lead 7-2 after two.
The Stars played a solid third closing down the Caps attack and skated their way to a sound 7- 2 victory in front of the home crowd. As a result of the upcoming trip to Boston the Varsity Stats will be travelling to Vienna to take on the same Caps on Wednesday. Here is hoping the Stars can keep the strong effort going on Wednesday and as they head to Boston.
